Akai MPC5000

Realized I hadn't put up a demo of the new Akai MPC5000. Digital Village have it at €1'930 but it's not in stock yet. I've wanted an MPC for a while now... my credit card is getting itchy :)

An obvious alternative would be the Roland MV-8000 or MV-8800

Creating Whooshes & Doppler Shifts

There's a great post on The Music Of Sound blog on how to create realistic sounding whooshes for TV and film. There are 2 posts Whooshes 101 and Whooshes 201. Whooshes 101 concentrates on creating natural whooshes and Whooshes 201 concentrates on using software help to create realisitc sounding doppler shifts. Both posts are accompanied with lots of audio and video examples.

The blog as a whole is pretty cool and definitely worth checking out.

Monitor plays Beethoven

This video shows the effect of eletromagnetic interference in a very cool way. You can use your computer monitor to send out AM radio signals that you can hear in your radio.

Glitch Station

The EDdi appears to be an impressive master controller for circuit bent toys etc. Shown connected to Casio SK1.

GEMA take on RapidShare.... and win!!!

File-sharing service RapidShare has been dealt a blow by a German court and faces severe penalties if it fails to take appropriate measures against the uploading of copyrighted content by its users. The Düsseldorf Regional Court ruled against RapidShare last week in a case brought on by the German version of the RIAA, GEMA. GEMA hailed the decision as a huge victory, and concluded that RapidShare could face shutdown if it's unable to comply.

It's a decent article by Jacqui Cheng. You can read the rest of it over at arstechnica.com

vestax controller one & ableton live composition by dj loomy

"In this video you can see a loop-composition maked with the controller one vestax and ableton live, the notes has been recorded previously on the controller one bank memory, you can see that, in another previous video." - Vestaxspain

Looks pretty easy.... very fluid way of putting loops together.

Frostwave Resonator Mashup

"This is the Frostwave Resonator, a very cool MS-20 filter clone. We're using a Jomox XBase999 drum machine as a sound source. The first clip is just a few simple filter sweeps to give you an idea of the musicality of this great filter. In the second clip we're using the Moog MF-101 as an envelope follower to the cutoff of both the low and high pass filters(which we multed). In the third clip we run the Moog Voyager's LFO and Sample & Hold outputs into both filter cutoffs (out of the VX-351). In the fourth clip we use the Analogue Systems rs600 Performance Wheels LFO as a modulation source. Mashup! bigcitymusic.com" - via bigcitymusic

LL Electronics Poly RozzBox

Here is the LL Electronics Poly RozzBox being played by Randy Kerber. There are no effects on this. It's just the RozzBox. www.bigcitymusic.com

I've been waiting to see the Rozzbox for a while... a 4 operator FM synth using 7 algorithms with knobs on and analogue filters.

The ARP 2600: A Short Overview

Part 1

Part 2

"Here is a demonstration of the sound and functionality of the ARP 2600 analog synthesizer.
Something about the source material (despite having been recorded in the same fashion as all of my videos) has resulted in the YouTube compression generating a lot of audio artifacts. No attempt I've made has resulted in a removal of this effect. Hopefully, you can listen past the effect of YouTubes compression to hear the sound of this synthesizer in these two videos! Hopefully, this problem won't exist in subsequent examples." - thanks to AutomaticGainsay

My favourite synth I have never touched :) - and the sweet voice of R2D2. If you haven't visited AutomaticGainsay's YouTube account you should have a look, he has tons of classic synth clips.

Doepfer Matrix Module

Doepfer is bringing out a new 8x8 Matrix Module... you can read more details at http://www.doepfer.de/a1831.htm. It's kind of like the SteckBox from SchniedersBuero. It's down as a preliminary €100... might bring your modular into more VCS3 territory. Doepfer have brought a fair few modules in the last while. The Matrix and the Bit Cruncher are definitely going on the every expanding wish list ;)

Sleevefacing!
